This was a quick overview of the author's world in freezer cooking written in ABC chapter format ...A is for Arrange time now to save time later, B is for Baked goods, etc. Ms Logan used her experience with freezer cooking and spoke of the benefits it holds and encouraged the reader to try it out. She shared tips that has worked for her.

The art of freezer cooking is no rocket science so much of what she stated were common sense. For example, I couldn't wait to get to the letter W for Weight Loss to see what she wrote there. There she had a two paragraph, one page entry that basically said to package meals in controlled portions ..label packages with calorie count if desired. Not exactly what I was looking for in that section but this isn't a diet book so shame on me! This is a book about how freezer cooking can save you time in the kitchen cooking. So the key that came across was preparation, preparation, preparation ... prepare ahead of time meals that can easily be put together in a snap.

I don't foresee myself cooking a month's worth of meals like this author does but doubling what I cook and freezing half is doable. I've done it a few times and this book did inspire me to try it out more often.

At the end, the author imparted ten best tips. Tip #5 I've put into practice (tweaked for non-freezer meals) and have worked for me beautifully so this book gets a half a star rating up for the idea, "Keep a meal plan on your fridge of meals you have in your freezer and your lightning fast meal choices. I don't assign days on my meal plans, I just cross the meals off as we eat them." See, I'm awful at meal planning. The most I prepare my meals is see what I have in my freezer for meat the night before, defrost it that night in the fridge, then the next day I hope that there's something in my pantry that would accessorize it! So this tip is for me! I now generate a list of generic meals ...like steak, spaghetti, sandwich, etc and cross the meals as we eat them instead of assigning specific daily meals. Of course, this means I keep up a well stocked pantry.

Oh by the way, this book did include some recipes under Y, Yummy Recipes. I haven't tried any of it and honestly it doesn't look like something my family eats often so that section isn't for me. ;)

This book is a little basic. If you've never made meals ahead, this book will help. Most of the information is so...basic.

The recipes look solid and the writing is very friendly, a plus in any book.

I just wasn't inspired. I was looking to find a little teasure or tid bit I haven't used before.

For the newbe, this is a good overview. Not bogged down in super specific details. Again a plus. I don't feel like I have to go out and get the newest super dupper gadgets to make this book work.

This is one of the better-written books I've seen on this topic. Even though I do a lot of make-ahead and freezer cooking, this book helped me think about the topic more clearly and logically. The author takes you through freezer cooking from a to z, and everything in between. There are a few recipes but even these recipes are more of a how-to than a measure this-cook that type of direction. The real key to this book is understanding the nice, logical way that freezer cooking can be done. The author helps the reader think about how freezer cooking can fit into the busiest schedule, and into the rhythm of anyone's life. Learn to use more fresh foods and have far less waste with this book. As the author points out, freezer cooking can even help with weight control since you're concentrating on cooking only one or two days per month. That means less temptation to taste the goodies!
Freezer cooking is an incredible way to save yourself time, and often money, by cooking large portions or multiple meals at once, and storing in your freezer for later use. Many people have misconceptions about freezer cooking, such as you must make 30 different meals to cook for a month, or you must have an extra freezer to store the extra food. In this concise volume, you learn truths, tips, and tricks to how freezer cooking can change life as you know it.

I have been doing freezer cooking for over 2 years now. I never really set out to do it, it just sort of happened. I am not a fan of eating leftovers for many days in a row, yet I only know how to cook in large quantities. When you are cooking for 2, these two facts can lead to a lot of waste; my solution was to cook a meal, use half immediately, and immediately freeze the other half. Before I knew it, I was well on my way to doing regular freezer cooking. I have done several big cooking days, where I prepare many meals or crockpot ready meals for freezing, but never have a done an entire month in advance, since that seems to daunting. This book really made me think that it is a realistic goal to work toward now.

Using each letter as a short section on a specific tip or aspect, this book succinctly breaks down the how to's of freezer cooking. You learn the benefits, the realities, shopping and preparation tips, and different ways to make freezer cooking work for your family. And one section even includes some great meal ideas and recipes. The book is a great introduction to the concept of freezer cooking, and the benefits. The concepts are geared toward people with very basic cooking skills, no need to be a master chef to find this useful. However, more experienced cooks may find that most of the information covered in the book is not new material to them. Personally, like I said, I have been doing freezer cooking for 2 years, and I still found the book helpful, simply because her style is different from mine, and she uses some different techniques that I may be able to incorporate.

In short, this book is an "introduction" to the concept of freezer cooking, so make sure you have the right expectations. It is not a cookbook, or a menu planner, and it is basic information geared toward first time or new freezer cooks. The book is pretty clear in it's subtitle that it is an introduction, so do not expect advanced techniques here, or discount the value of the information to those who are just starting out to freezer cooking.
